Where was the first Sbarro?

The first Sbarro was opened as a salumeria in 1956 by Italian immigrants by Gennaro and Carmela Sbarro in the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. It was located at 1701 65th Street, on the corner of 17th Avenue. Though primarily a grocery store, Sbarro also served pizza, which proved popular enough that they started opening dedicated pizzerias. The original Sbarro closed in 2004, and is currently occupied by a hotpot and sushi restaurant called 65 Kuho Sushi Shabu Shabu. Since then, Sbarro has also relocated its headquarters from New York to Columbus, Ohio.
