eMachines was a personal computer brand, known for its line of affordable PC systems. It was founded by Lap Shun Hui (also known as John Hui) in September of 1998, and became the
fourth best-selling computer brand in the United Stats less than a year later. eMachines was acquired by Gateway in 2004, which in turn was acquired by Acer in 2007. In January 2013, Acer discontinued the eMachines brand.
