Where is White Sands, Brooklyn?

White Sands was a small neighborhood located in the southwestern portion of Brooklyn, New York. Its borders were the Belt Parkway to the north, the Coney Island Creek to the east and south, and Calvert Vaux Park to the west. The neighborhood received its name from the white-colored sand that once covered its shores before it was replaced with landfill. Some of the area's first homes were bungalows that were built on stilts atop these sands. In the 90's, home-improvement retailer The Home Depot started purchasing homes in White Sands in order to raze down and open up a new store. This new Home Depot store was opened in 2002, and occupies roughly two-thirds of the neighborhood's previous homes. The remaining houses that were not sold to the retail giant are located on two streets - Bay 52nd and Bay 53rd. White Sands is not an officially-recognized neighborhood today, and is considered to be a part of the larger Gravesend community.

What does Heinz 57 mean?

Heinz 57 is an advertising slogan used by the H. J. Heinz Company, most famously known for their ketchup products. It was first introduced by the company's founder Henry J. Heinz in 1896 as "57 Pickle Varieties", and was inspired by a subway advertisement for a shoe store that boasted "21 styles." The origin of the number 57 is unclear, but the most popular theory is that it was chosen because Heinz believed 5 is his lucky number, and 7 is his wife's lucky number. Despite popular belief, 57 does not stand for the number of products Heinz sold, as they were already selling more than 60 different products at that time. The name "Heinz 57" is currently used for a steak sauce they sell. Prior to 1940, the Heinz 57 steak sauce was sold under the name "Beefsteak Sauce."

Heinz 57 is also used as a slang word, and refers to a person with a mixed background, or a dog that is of mixed breeds.

StarKist tuna lawsuit update 2017

The Hendricks v. StarKist class action lawsuit, which alleged that the company deliberately under-filled tuna cans, had a claim filing deadline of November 20, 2015. Plaintiffs were originally expected to be refunded a choice of either $25 in cash or $50 in vouchers by the end of 2016, but as of May 2017, no one has received their payment. While the slow progress led some to believe it was a hoax or a scam, a March 2017 update from the lawyers handling the case noted that there were multiple appeals filed, which could take months or even years to resolve. Additionally, more people than expected filed a claim in the lawsuit, so the initial announcement of a $25 payment in cash or $50 in tuna vouchers are now estimated at $2.19 and $4.43, respectively. This is because the lawsuit provided only $8 million in cash and $4 million in vouchers to be divided among the plaintiffs.

What happened to AllAdvantage

AllAdvantage was an internet advertising company, and the most famous of the "pay to surf" websites that were commonplace in the late 90s. Launched in March 1999, All Advantage worked by offering users 50 cents an hour to view rotating banner ads via a downloaded "ad bar" program. It was especially popular among teens who otherwise didn't have a way of earning their own money. At its prime, AllAdvantage had over 10 million members. The website, like other pay to surfs, fell victim to the dot-com bubble burst and folded just short of its two-year anniversary in February of 2011. In its two years of operation, AllAdvantage paid over $160 million in earnings to its users.

In November of 2006, some of AllAdvantage's former founders launched in a similar website called AGLOCO. Much like its predecessor, AGLOCO worked using an ad "Viewbar" download and a referral system. Though ownership had claimed AGLOCO would be different due to their plan to "diversify its revenue streams by including sponsored software and services and affiliate fees, in addition to highly targeted advertising", the website lasted only a year before closing.

White film in mouth after using Listerine mouthwash

The white film that develops in your mouth after using Listerine is due to the mouthwash's high alcohol content. The alcohol burns away at the skin inside your mouth and causes it to peel off in a white gooey film. Switching to a mouthwash with a lower alcohol percentage can alleviate this problem.

Dry mouth after using Listerine mouthwash

It is not uncommon to have a case of dry mouth after using Listerine. This is due to Listerine's high alcohol content, which makes it effective at killing bacteria, but also dries out your mouth. You may be able to this problem less severe by rinsing your mouth well with water after using Listerine, though you're better off switching to another mouthwash with a lower alcohol percentage.

Is My Pillow good?

My Pillow, which earned its fame through late-night infomercials, is generally considered to be a poor product. Most MyPillow products have a 3.5 rating on Amazon after numerous reviews, a full point lower than most of their competitors in the price range.

My Pillow has also been dogged by numerous complaints, especially in regards to their "buy one, get one free" offer. Their scamming of customers has led to an F rating from the BBB and a lowly 2.1 rating after 1,644 reviews on Pissed Consumer. My Pillow was also the target of a 2016 class-action lawsuit for false advertising, which the company settled for $1 million. The lawsuit challenged My Pillow's claim of being able to cure fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome, sleep apnea, cerebral palsy, acid reflux, and other conditions, and also complained of founder and spokesperson Michael J Lindell marketing himself as a "sleep expert", despite having no board certification or training in sleep medicine.

Why did Julia Pierce leave Cherri Bomb?

The band now known as Hey Violet was originally founded by Julia Pierce when she was in middle school as Red Shadow, and later Cherri Bomb. Pierce wanted to form an all-girl rock band, and sent out flyers to music stores to recruit members. Nia Lovelis was the first to respond, and would become the band's drummer. Miranda Miller soon followed, after sending an audition video of herself playing keyboard and guitar. Another girl, whose name is unknown, joined as the bassist, and this became the first incarnation of the band, going by the name Red Shadow.

Before long, the original bassist left the band due to "creative differences", though it is believed that she could've been bullied out of the band by Nia's mother, Ana Lovelis, who began to establish her influence over the band. Ana then put her other daughter, Rena Lovelis, in the band as the new bassist despite her lack of proficiency on the instrument. She also found the band their first manager, Samantha Maloney, who was best known for her work as a drummer with bands like Motley Crue and Eagles of Death Metal. This lineup of Cherri Bomb was signed to Hollywood Records, and would go on to release one EP (Stark in 2011) and a single album (This Is the End of Control in 2012)

On January 23, 2013, Cherri Bomb announced on their Facebook page that Julia has left the band. Miranda had commented that this was due to creative differences, while Julia stated on her Facebook that it wasn't her decision. Many fan accounts theorized that Julia was actually bullied out of the band by the other members and Ana Lovelis. Ana notably failed at a music career herself, and seemed to be living vicariously through her two daughters. Julia was quickly replaced by Casey Moreta, a friend of the Lovelis family, with Rena taking over on lead vocals while still handling the bass.

In 2015, Cherri Bomb changed their name to Hey Violet, adopting a more mainstream pop sound. A new bassist, Iain Shipp, was brought in with Rena now focused solely on singing. Under the name of Hey Violet, the band has released two EPs so far - I Can Feel It in 2015 and Brand New Moves in 2016. This version of the band with three females and two males playing pop-friendly music is drastically different than Julia's original vision of an all-girl band playing rock music.
