Sheepshead Bay is named after the Sheepshead (Archosargus probatocephalus), a marine fish that can occasionally be found in that area. Although the Sheepshead fish can be found all along the western Atlantic from Brazil to Nova Scotia, they are most common in southwest Florida and are not abundant in the bay named after it.
