Which movie had the worst opening weekend?

The movie with a wide release (600+ theaters) that had the worst opening weekend was Proud American, which managed only $96,076. The movie, released by Slowhand Cinema on September 12, 2008, advertised itself as a film capturing the greatness of the American spirit, but was slammed by critics as a "corporate-sponsored, feature-length infomercial" and a "thinly disguised advertisement for corporate deregulation." The movie featured the founding of Wal-Mart and Coca-Cola, and was sponsored by MasterCard and American Airlines, who received product placement throughout the film. Proud American finished with a total gross of $131,357.

For wide releases of 2000+ theaters, the worst opening belonged to The Oogieloves in the Big Balloon Adventure. Despite a budget of $20 million, and another $40 spent on marketing, Oogieloves managed only $443,901 on its opening weekend (August 29, 2012) and a total gross of $1,065,907, making it a huge box office bomb.
